PUJOLS BEATS FIELD FOR NL MVP
New York City – St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols wins his second National League’s Most Valuable Player award. Pujols won by a comfortable margin over Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard. Third place goes to Ryan Bruan of the Milwaukee Brewers and Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers landed in fourth. Albert Pujols hit .357 with 37 homers and 116 Runs Batted In despite playing
much of the season with a sore right elbow. St. Louis finished fourth in the NL Central. Pujols got 18 of the 32 first-place votes. He also won the NL MVP award back in 2005, his first time.


MAVS OWNER CHARGED WITH INSIDER TRADING
Washington, DC
– Federal regulators have accused billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban of insider trading for allegedly using confidential information on a stock sale to avoid more than $750,000 in losses. Cuban disputed the allegations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and said he would contest them. The SEC filed a civil
lawsuit against the Dallas-based NBA team owner in federal court in Dallas. The agency alleged that in July of 2004, Mark was invited to get in on the coming stock offering by Mamma.com Inc. after he agreed to keep the information private.

NEW YORK NHLers WINS THEIR SHOOTOUTS
In Manhattan, the New York Rangers play the Ottawa Senators to a shootout in which the Rangers would go on to win by the score of 2-1 and the Senators’ losing streak increases to five. While in Long Island at Uniondale, Nassau County, the Islanders were second to begin a
shootout with the Vancouver Canucks and the Islanders wins the only goal in that sudden death and wins the game 2-1. The Islanders are now with three straight victories.


CONKLIN RECORDS FIFTH CAREER S.O. IN WIN
Detroit
– Goaltender Ty Conklin made 20 saves for his fifth career shutout as the Red Wings defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 Monday night. Jiri Hudler and Niklas Kronwall each had a goal and an assist to the scoring line. Mikael Samuelsson and Johan Franzen also scored for
Detroit, in which has won five of its last six games. Another Red Wing had two assists, Henrik. Zetterberg.


OTHER NHL RESULTS
The Northeast Division-leading Boston Bruins handed their division mates the Toronto Maple Leafs a loss by the score of 3-2 in its return from a weeklong road trip back to Toronto. The San Jose Sharks continues their winning surge after a big 4-1 victory at Nashville.


ROCKETS HOLD ON DESPITE LOSING T-MAC
Oklahoma City, OK
– The Houston Rockets made a huge surge without their seven-time all-star Tracy McGrady to beat the spiral-downed Oklahoma City Thunder 100-89. T-Mac aggravated his left knee in the opening moments of the second half and has to leave the game. Offseason pickup Ron Artest also had an injury scare but Houston was able to withstand those losses with Luis Scola and Yao Ming baskets the combined 42 points. The top leader for the OKC Thunder is last year’s Rookie of the Year winner Kevin Durant, who had 29 points with 7 rebounds and four each in assists and steals in the Thunder’s loss.

BOOZER AND JAZZ KNOCK OFF THE SUNS’ SKID
Salt Lake City, UT
– The Phoenix Suns’ three-game winning streak has come to an end after the Utah Jazz, with Carlos Boozer having a big night, wins 109-97. Boozer carried the Jazz’s victory with 21 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Andrei Kirilenko also added points of
his own with 19 baskets and two blocks on Shaq, who was punished by a fine before the game, as Utah went away in the fourth quarter. Amare Stoudemire is the Suns’ top performer in their loss with 30 points, 8 rebounds and one each in steals and blocks.

MASON’S LAST SECOND THREE WINS IT
Los Angeles
– Roger Mason hits the big three with 8.4 seconds waning down and results in an 86-83 win over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center. Mason’s game-winning shot isn’t the big thing in the Spurs’ win. Tim Duncan had 20 points with 15 rebounds, 4 assists and
six blocks. The Los Angeles Clippers were outplayed in every major statistic; only one win in their last ten, -12.8 points is the worst in the league.


SHAQ FINED $25K FOR HIS BEHAVIOR
Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O’Neal was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Monday for his verbal abuse of an official and failure to leave the court in a timely manner after he was ejected in the Suns’ win over the Pistons Sunday. Shaq said that the punishment doesn’t matter to him. The incident occurred with 5:19 left in the second half when Pistons
guard Rodney Stuckey went in for a layup and O’Neal sent him crashing onto the court floor chest-first. That foul play results in him getting an automatic ejection. O’Neal stayed in the court arguing the call and behaving badly. He was previously fined $35,000 for his role in Friday’s altercation with the Houston Rockets.

K.G. SUSPENDED FOR ONE MATCH
All-star forward Kevin Garnet is suspended for Tuesday’s game against the New York Knicks, announced by the NBA. He was punished for his action on Saturday when he hit Milwaukee Buck center Andrew Bogut in the face. The foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 1.





DAWSON’S LONG FG ATTEMPT WINS IT FOR BROWNS
Orchard Park, NY – Phil Dawson’s 56-yard field goal is good with 1:39 to go in the game as the Browns got away from the Bills’ FG miss with a 29-27 win on Monday Night Football. Browns QB Brady Quinn, in his second NFL start, wins his first NFL game as a starter. The
Browns record on MNF this season is 2-0 after going 1-4 from 1992 through 2007.

NCAA BASKETBALL RESULTS
Connecticut easily beats Hartford 99-55 at Hartford Civic Center; Villanova destroys Bronx-based Fordham 107-68; Georgetown defeated Jacksonville 71-62



DROGBA BANNED FOR THREE OVER COIN-THROW
London, UK
– The FA has banned Chelsea star Didier Drogba for three matches over a coin throw into a section of Burnley fans during their shocking defeated in a Carling Cup match. Drogba later admitted his violent conduct.
