PEDROIA TOPS THE REST FOR AL MVP
New York City
– Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia won the American League’s Most Valuable Player award Tuesday afternoon, becoming the first second baseman to earn the honor since 1959, in which Nellie Fox of the Chicago White Sox did. The little man of the BoSox easily beat out Minnesota’s Justin Morneau and added to his ever-expanding trophy case. He drew 16 of the 28 first-place votes cast by the Baseball Writers’ Association off one ballot, while Morneau and fellow Red Sox Kevin Youkilis were listed on every one. Dustin Pedroia in the 2008 season batted .326 with 17 homers and 83 Runs Batted In. He was the winner of last year’s AL Rookie of the Year.


DEMPSTER TO STAY FOR FOUR MORE YEARS
Chicago
– Right-handed starting pitcher Ryan Dempster and the Chicago Cubs agreed on a $52 million, four-year contract that includes a player option to 2012. He gets a $4 million signing bonus, $8 million in 2010 and $13.5 million in 2011. Dempster has a 2012 option for $14 million. Ryan Dempster, now entering next season in his 12th major league season, has combined total stats when he was with Florida and Cincinnati; 76-81 record, 4.55 ERA, 1,194 strikeouts, and 87 saves.



ATTORNEY: PACMAN COMPLETES TREATMENT
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has completed the requirements for alcohol counseling, as mandated by the NFL following his latest violation of the league’s personal conduct policy. Jones’ attorney, Worrick Robinson, said Jones has returned to Dallas and is
awaiting a ruling decision from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on the possibility of reinstatement. Jones’ latest violation of the league’s personal conduct policy occurred on October 7 when he was involved in an alcohol-related scuffle with one of his bodyguards at a private party in Dallas.


SIR ALEX FINED AND 2-MATCH BANNED
London, UK
– Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been given a two-match banned from the touchline and a £10,000 (US$14,957) fine following his ruckus with referee Mike Dean this month. The longtime Man-U manager, 66, was fuming that Dean did not send off Hull defender Andy Turner for a foul on Michael Carrick during his team’s 4-3 Premier League win at Old Trafford. His suspension starts on December 2 and means that he will not be on the sidelines for the Carling Cup match against Blackburn Rovers the following day.


LEBRON SETS NEW MARK IN CAVS WIN
East Rutherford, NJ
– Cleveland Cavalier all-star forward LeBron James put on show for the New York metropolitan area with a new record set by becoming the youngest player to reach 11,000 career points as the Cavaliers top New Jersey 106-82. Cleveland outscored the Nets 57-30 in the second half and extended their winning streak to eight games. The Nets fell to 1-6 when scoring fewer than 100 points this season.



NELSON TOPS AGAIN FOR ORLANDO
Orlando
– Jameer Nelson scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Orlando Magic to a 103-90 win over the Toronto Raptors, overcoming a season-high 40-point effort by Chris Bosh. Bosh also had 18 rebounds, but the Raptors had 24 turnovers. Orlando built a 13-point third quarter
before hanging on for the victory. It was their eighth in the last nine games.


CELTS DID IT WITHOUT SUSPENED K.G.

– The Boston Celtics, without Kevin Garnett, defeated the New York Knicks on a very close ending by the score of 110-101 at the Garden. Kevin Garnett was suspended earlier in the day by the league for his physical action in Saturday’s game at Milwaukee. Tuesday night,
Garnett’s replacement Brian Scalabrine played 21 minutes in the game as he scored 8 points, shot 3-for-5 in field goals, rebounded three and one block. The Celtics defeated New York for the seventh straight time and improved to 10-2 this season.


LAKERS GOES BACK ON WINNING TRACK
Los Angeles
– Pau Gasol scored 24 of his season-high 34 points in the first half and the Lakers rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 116-109 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Gasol is the first Laker not named Kobe Bryant to score at least 18 points in the first quarter of a game since Shaquille O’Neal had 18 points against the Celtics back on March 21, 2003.

OTHER NBA RESULTS
The Indiana Pacers defeated the Atlanta Hawks 113-96 at Indianapolis with Danny Granger the top performer for Indiana with 34 points; The Miami Heat won by the score of 94-87 over their Southeast division mates the Washington Wizards with Dwayne Wade had 19 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds; The Charlotte Bobcats loses their second straight game by the victory of the Dallas Mavericks by the score of 100-83. The win delighted owner Mark Cuban, who was charged with insider trading the day before; The Memphis Grizzlies snapped their four-game losing streak by defeating the Sacramento Kings 109-94 at Memphis with Rudy Gay scoring 22 points with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and one block; The Denver Nuggets increases their winning streak to seven games after a 114-105 win over the Bucks at the Pepsi Center; Greg Oden put up a big show in Oakland with 22 points and 10 rebounds despite the Blazers loss to the Golden State Warriors 111-106.

2ND HALF COMEBACK LEADS TO CAROLINA WIN
Raleigh, NC
– The Carolina Hurricanes made a huge 3rd period comeback with 3½ minutes remaining and results in 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens at home. Carolina’s Sergei Samsonov and Ray Whitney scored those final two goals while Montreal’s Carey Price made a career-high 46 saves and stopped the first 30 shots he faced. Cam Ward made 28 saves for the Hurricanes, who won their two straight after dropping three in a row.

PENGUINS’ SIX-GAME WINNING SKID ENDS
Pittsburgh
– Marek Zidlicky scored the only goal in the shootout and the Minnesota Wild defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 at the Igloo. That loss means that Pittsburgh’s six-game winning streak has come to an end.




FLORIDA FOUND A WAY TO WIN IN TAMPA BAY
Tampa
– In an all-Florida battle between these two teams, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers played into a shootout after Tampa Bay began their 3-goal deficit rally in the last two periods. Nathan Horton scores the only goal for the Panthers in the shootout and they won 4-3 at Tampa Bay.



OTHER NHL RESULTS
The Edmonton Oilers snap a three-game skid by defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-2; The Calgary Flames put a huge arson on the Colorado Avalanche and results in a 4-1 rout at home; The Chicago Blackhawks defeats the Phoenix Coyotes in a shootout by the score of 3-2.



RONALD LIKELY TO CALL IT QUITS
Former Brazilian international striker Ronald states that he will likely hang up his boots rather than to continue his career in pain, suffering from a serious knee injury not long ago. He made a comeback earlier this week in Morocco for a charity match. The 32 year-old left Italian club AC Milan after the 2007-08 season.


URUGUAYAN SEASON HALTED BY FANS’ RIOT
Montevideo, Uruguay
– The Uruguayan Football Association have called an indefinite halt to the Apertura season following Sunday’s post-match riot between Danubio and Nacional. Group of rival fans invaded the pitch after the top-of-the-table clash, which was a Danubio 1-0 win,
and the situation was not calmed for 15 minutes. AUF president Jose Luis Corbo said that there will be no further games in the coming weeks if the situation is resolved.
